To Yell or not to YELL!!!!

Alright, let me just start this out the right way. I, Terri L. Richmond, am a yeller....and at times I'm very good at it. Is it the right thing? Probably not. Do I need to change? Absolutely. Am I willing to change? Not sure, yet. Ask me again in a month or two.

I ran across this post and realized that it was really thought provoking and could possibly be life changing for me....and my significant others. So, I'm gonna share it with you. Maybe it could change your life, too.
You can find more info here.

love you guys,
Terri

Wow, Terri. That is a great post. I, too, am a yeller. Of course I didn't set out to be either. But, as situations escalate I certainly have raised my voice. I don't like it, but I do it. That lady's comment about lazy parenting is probably very true (although it hurts like heck to say), and is one of my biggest weaknesses as a mom. (consistency).

There is also a book out there called Screamfree parenting and a corresponding website. I haven't read it yet, but I thought I'd pass it along.

But, I really do like that ladies suggestions! Thanks for sharing it. I'm going to have to re-read it and mull it over.

Ugh. I learned early on as a teacher that once you start yelling, you often can't get kids to respond to you until you reach the yell volume. My mentor teacher, who never talked to her class above a whisper, said she even disciplines in a volume to have the child strain to listen. I don't yell at school. At home, lately, ugh. She has not been listening and it has been difficult. Thanks for the post, it is a good one and will be re-read.
